Flight404: Live visuals

Robert Hodgkin (aka Flight404) has just published a new VJ project that uses Processing as a tool for live visuals. He’s using Amit Pitaru’s Sonia library to make visuals that respond to live sound input. The live performance is with New York-based artist Bitshifter.

Robert uses a live webcam as input for color and texture. To control parameters like camera and custom algorithms he uses a setup with 4 Griffin Powermates. Impressively, due to the new OpenGL acceleration implemented in the Processing BETA the framerate stays at 20-40 fps even at full screen. This makes Processing a viable option for live visuals.

Robert has made the source code available, so any would-be Processing VJ’s can have a look at how it’s done.
