Front: Fly lamp
Stockholm-based Front does idea-driven industrial design. Their Fly lamp is based on the motion capture of the path of a fly circling around a light bulb. They’ve also designed a table with a pattern copied from the paths insects make when burrowing through a piece of wood. While not generative in a strict sense, this use of motion traces is an excellent piece of conceptual design.
An all-girl design company, Front has also created some interesting prototypes of technology that move away from the classic “Black Box” and towards more organic forms and materials.
