Generative Poetry from oekandana

Name: oekandana

A large number of generative poems can be found at oekandana. The poems are all generated by a software called Flowerewolf which is based on NodeBox. I am not quite sure if it is a hoax but the results are sometimes quite surprising…

According to this page Oekandana is “an auto-generated hoax”.

It’s a hoax because it was made by a computer, most people think the website is a collective of people. I agree it might be useless because it serves no real goal (other than illustrating how AI can make a computer creative), but then neither does any other poem…

Usefulness is a strange notion. Who defines it, and for whom? One man’s rubbish is another man’s art, as they say…

The hardest part with usefulness and generative art is having the computer define its own universe of usefulness, evolving it from a machine that spawns random stuff to a creative process that knows what it’s doing… it’s basically the same with humans. In that sense, we may or may not like Flowerewolf’s poems, but at least Flowerewolf itself likes what it’s doing (and doing what it likes).
