Golan Levin: Meshy

In connection with the Cimatics festival that is currently taking place in Brussels, the Mediaruimte showroom for digital culture is showing an exhibition they call <a href=”proce55ing”> – digital tagging of the city with p55. In addition to showing a number of generative works on plasma screens and as interactive projections, the exhibition has taken over a number of storefront on Rue de Laekens and turned them into projection spaces.

The result is a showpiece of generative works with a focus on audiovisual works, many of which were created in Processing. The artists include Andreas Gysin, Dextro, Dimitre Lima, Elout de Kok, Golan Levin, Marius Watz and Meta.

For the opening Monday 31 October Mediaruimte had invited Elout de Kok and myself to present our work at an informal artist brunch, following the uniquely Belgian reasoning that code goes better with croissants. This was followed by a concert by the wonderful Hamburg artist Gunter Adler. This Friday there will be an evening of audiovisual concerts by TinyLittleElements, Akuvido, Kotra and Zavoloka.

The Mediaruimte space was set up in 2003 by experimental architecture studio Lab[au], who call themselves a Laboratory for Architecture and Urbanism. Veterans of audiovisual architecture since 1995, they have shown their work internationally. They call their practice “metadesign”, and work both practically and theoretically. Mediaruimte is a space both for discourse and exhibition of audiovisual works.
