How I love my GameBoy. Anyone can make GameBoy games. I spent a couple months a while back learning GB dev just because I liked the machine– many similarities to the Apple IIe, but with tile sets and better sound. It’s friendly. By contrast, the PS2 is engineered to be hostile, and the Atari 2600 is so primitive, it’s more like electrical engineering than programming. I haven’t done any GBA development, so I can’t comment on them (maybe when the kids are older).
devrs.com had all the good resources.
When I interviewed at Helixe, they showed me their current project, which was the GBA Incredibles game. It was running in the no$gmb (No-Dollar GameBoy) emulator.
Of course, in America, under the DMCA, all homebrew is totally illegal. This post is mainly for our Nordic readers.
