Exciting news: Mobile Processing has finally launched, bringing the world of Java-powered mobile phones within range of Processing enthusiasts everywhere. Congratulations to Francis Li and the Processing team, this is a bit of a scoop.

The site is a basic so far, so I guess there is still a way to go before the project is fully fleshed out. Here’s the most important info most people will want to know: “Sketches created using Mobile Processing will run on Java Powered handsets, also known as Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) handsets. Mobile Processing sketches are mobile applications, called MIDlets, that are currently compatible with the CLDC 1.0, MIDP 1.0 release of the J2ME platform.”

Let’s hope the mobile phone companies have bothered to make sure their phones are in compliance with the standard, so that you all can amuse yourselves making luscious screensavers for those designer phone. Happy hacking!
